Recently we just finished reading as a family Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh. I received a comment from a friend and she told me the only reason why I can read so much with my children is because I am a home educating mom. I have but one response to that, that is a load of bologna!
How can one not think no matter what that reading is important and take the time to set aside for that child or children to do it. Home educating mom or not. We should all read with our children. if they read to us or us to them. Reading is important.
Maybe I do get through more books I guess as a home educating mom but I would think that any other mom could do the same. I read to my children 3 chapters from our book a month a day, not including the weekend unless they want me too.
However our reading does not stop there I require my children to read 20 minutes on their own as well per day. I read to my 6 year old and 3 year old 20 extra minutes per day.
So if you think about it, how come a parent who cares cannot take the time to read 3 chapters a day to a child. That is what is wrong with some parenting, yes my husband works and I do at home non- stop but make the time for your children.
Anyone can read as many books as they want they just have to sit down, stop the stuff that is not important. Facebook, cleaning, Email and read to what is most important, their child. Take a moment, Journey into another land with your children. Before bed, books on tape if you want to listen in the car, have them read to you before school. Take a moment reading is so wonderful.
That is just another rant from this book junkee…
